to be pension gratuity as a way of the Government to say
thank you for those who choose to serve Nigeria"

The chief of Defence
staff, Air chief marshal Paul Dike, the
current chairman of ECOWAS chiefs
of Defence staff just returned from
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, where the 25th
meeting of the body was held from 10th
to 12th June 2009.During the
meeting, challenges to peace and
security in the ECOWAS member
states were discussed. Presentations
were made on the security situation in
Guinea Bissau, Niger, Mali, Togo and
Nigeria by the various country
representatives. The state of readiness
of ECOWAS standby force for the
region was presented and reviewed as
part of African standby force for the
continent. In this regard, a logistics
Military exercise named Exercise JIGIU
2009 was conducted. The exercise was
designed to test the logistics
capability of the ECOWAS standby
force in responding to any security
crisis in the region when called upon to
do so. At the end of the meeting, the
chief of defence staff visited the
troops and inspected deployed equipment
at the exercise area. Nigeria was
represented by fully equipped signal
communication squadron where they gave a
good account of themselves.
He
reiterated his commitment to improve the welfare of
personnel of the Armed Forces especially in ensuring
that a pension stress-free system is enthroned in
Nigeria He also charge the military to remain
professionally dedicated to the its constitutional
responsibilities at all time.
